Our Solution
We hope through the opportunities we provide, more students (specially females and minorities) around the world will gain confidence to succeed in the tech industry and develop a mentality that AI is for everyone. To harness the full power of AI, we need people with a comparably broad set of experiences,worldviews, and identities working on AI. Diversity in AI will lead to better problem-solving, expands the talent pool and is important for long-term enriching and inclusive growth of our world. However, there is a distinct lack of diversity of people in the AI community, leading to a lack of diversity of thought. This results in technology biased for certain demographics and values, accruing the benefits of AI to the few instead of all. Our mission is to increase interest and diversity in AI through workshops and outreach events throughout the school year. We plan to provide excellent support to unleash the power of underrepresented communities in Artificial Intelligence.
Secondly, focusing on both AI Alignment and AI ethics is the best chance for our human race to develop the innovative and unbiased leadership in AI essential for the planet’s future. There is increasing alarm that the complexity of AI may reduce the justification for consequential decisions to “the algorithm made me do it.” We would like to do our best in shaping this future by ensuring there is strong awareness on fairness, accountability and responsibility.
Overcoming diversity challenges and enabling responsible development is essential to ensure a future where AI can be widely and ethically used across different domains.
Focusing on Diversity in AI + Advancing AI Alignment and Ethics = Better Planet
Our Approach
Our mission is to increase interest and diversity in AI through outreach events throughout the school year. Hence, we are hosting a variety of webinars, and workshops related to AI and other STEM fields for free. As part of workshops, we have also created an AI Curriculum for high schoolers, so it can inculcate their interest in the field. We realize that holistic education, as an interdisciplinary approach to learning, can enable effective learning. Besides the traditional avenues of exposing students to AI concepts, we would also use the medium of different art forms (e.g., drawing, painting, music) to make AI more accessible and interesting for the diverse students who would otherwise feel intimidated learning AI.
We also hope to encourage and support students through our events in learning about the ethical application of AI. We will also be advancing AI ethics and AI alignment awareness and education through blogs, resources, & community.
